Lankaputhra ranks third
Lankaputhra Development Bank ranked third in
implementing the Kurshi
Navodaya loan scheme, based on disbursements made by the Hambantota
branch of the bank. A large number of recipients have obtained loans
under this scheme through the Lankaputhra Development Bank. Fully owned
and enjoying a hundred per cent State patronage, the Lankaputhra
Development Bank is operating through seven branches. Plans are afoot to
expand the branch network to cover Moneragala as well as the North in
the future.
A ceremony to assess performance in this regard, organized by the
Central Bank of Sri Lanka, was held in Colombo recently. Lankaputhra
Development Bank was represented at this event by the Hambantota Branch
Manager Wasanthi Nanayakkara and Krushi Navodaya Loan Scheme and
coordinating officer Manager Colombo branch Dulmani Jayasekara.
The Kurshi Navodaya loan scheme introduced by the Central Bank of Sri
Lanka seeks to disburse low interest loans through 14 local State and
private sector banks. Lankaputhra Development Bank acts as the principal
participatory financial institution under this loan scheme.
The scheme which was introduced by the Central Bank in 2007 makes
available the capital to raise the income avenues of farmers engaged in
diverse economic pursuits in the agricultural sector and those engaged
in self-employment ventures based on agriculture. |
