Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara praised Man of the Match Thisara
Perera who did most of the damage to the Indian batting line-up, lifting
the hosts to the final of the Micromax triangular tournament on Sunday..
Thisara Perera took a career best 5 wickets for 28, his maiden five
wicket haul. Sri Lankan wrapped up the Indians for a total score of 103
in 33.4 overs which they chased down the target early with a bonus point
with 34.5 overs to spare. Giving his best after being called in back
into the team, Perera bettered his previous best in all forms of
cricket.
“He is a quality seamer, very successful against India in all his
outings, so we thought it would be the right move, and it really worked
for us.” said Sangakkara at the post match press briefing.
His performances will be bothering the selectors in deciding a final
team of 11 as Thisara Perera is now head to head with few other all
rounders for a spot, such as Ferveez Maharoof, Jeevan Mendis and Anjelo
Mathews. In Sangakkara’s opinion, the selectors would have to consider
him for the next World Cup, along with the promising youngster Dinesh
Chandimal and Jeevan Mendis. All of them will heat up the race for the
final team.
Sangakkara stated that ‘even before the Test series we have been for
UDRS and the only reason I believe why we did not have referral system
throughout the Test series and through this series was because India did
not want UDRS,” Sangakkara said at the post-match press conference when
asked about the bad decisions.
“Well, sometimes decisions work for you and sometimes they are
against you. But if everything has to be fair use technology, make it
even,” he said. “The ICCshould make technology compulsory now because if
some sides are using it and some series we are playing without
technology I don’t think that is right. Everyone should use technology.
If it is a must,” he added. |
