Arrested for infanticide

Katunayake Police arrested a woman who had allegedly thrown her new born infant into the Kovinna river at Katunayake on Thursday morning. The Police found the body of the infant on August 20 floating in the river.

The Police arrested a 37-year-old woman who is allegedly the mother of the infant on Sunday at Andiambalama, Kovinna in Katunayake. She is a resident of Batagoda, Puhulpola, Welimada. She was boarded at Katunayake.

The suspect has been directed to the Negombo Hospital for a medical test. Police stated that it was revealed the woman has delivered the child on the night of August 19 and thrown the infant into the river the following day.
