Making it simple and straight
The national road map to take communicative
English skills across the country - ‘English as a life skill’ was
launched last year. Felicitation of the first phase and the launch
of the second phase of the initiative will be held today at Temple
Trees under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s patronage. Presidential
Task Force on English and IT Coordinator Sunimal Fernando outlines
the progress and successes of the project.

Muslims are Tamils, the UNP concludes?
The Eelamists roped in the Muslims for purposes
of number exaggeration; it was not about Tamils but ‘Tamil speaking
people’. Politicians are not exactly lazy intellectually when it
comes to these things; they know what works for the moment and they

Utter madness
There is nothing more irritating, annoying and
confusing than when a police officer takes over electronically
synchronized traffic lights and creates a complete muddle of the
situation when he orders motorists waiting at ‘red lights’ to
proceed while those facing ‘green’ are held back. At a point of
collision between a motorist coming from ‘green’, oblivious to
Police command, and crashes into another vehicle, whom does the
police charge for dangerous driving? Where does the Motor Traffic
Law stand in such a situation?
