Defending champions Kandy Sports Club which is aiming to retain the
Caltex 'A' Division League Rugby Title for a record 10th successive year
are leading the
points table of the Cup Championship with 30.50 points
from eight outings.
The lads from Kandy who were contained to a 10-3 lead at the breather
turned in a dazzling display of open rugby in the second half to pile up
29 more points to win convincingly by 39 points to 3.
It was Kandy SC's full back Mohamed Sheriff who stole the limelight
with a hat-trick of tries. He time and again joined the line to form the
overlap and scored three scintillating tries after 50 metre runs.
Fly half Saliya Kumara too had a grand game. He made on interception,
kicked the ball and collected on the follow through to touch down under
the posts. He added the extra points to three tries and fired across two
penalties to have a personal tally of 17 points.
CR and FC hard fought win
CR and FC propelled by their power-packed forwards scored a hard
fought 13-9 win over a gallant Navy outfit to move upto second place
with 27.00 points from nine games. The 'Red Shirts' 'eight' gave a
sterling display and excelled in both attack and defence. Skipper
Dushanth Lewke was a source of inspiration to his team-mates with his
fiery loose play and was ably supported by Danushka Perera, Henry
Terrence, Ishan Noor, Anuja Perera and Ashen Karthelis. It was some
resolute tackling by the CR forwards which prevented the Navy from
crossing their goal line in the dying stages of the game. |
