China coal mine explosion kills 46
An explosion in a central China colliery killed
46 miners, state media reported, in the latest deadly accident to
strike the country’s notoriously dangerous mining sector Monday. The
blast happened near Pingdingshan city in the central province of
Henan when a store of gunpowder kept underground detonated,
according to reports citing the State Administration of Work Safety.

Anti-violence Chinese rally in Paris
Police teargas protesters:
Paris police tear-gassed demonstrators from the
city’s Chinese community Sunday when a march to protest a spate of
violent robberies descended into scuffles after a demonstrator’s bag
was stolen. Police said some 8,500 demonstrators turned out onto the
streets of city’s eastern Belleville district, where they called for
“coordinated and concerted” action by the authorities against the
growing number of attacks.

One-third of ship's illegal migrants were LTTE
At least 25 of the 76 men who arrived in British
Columbia aboard the Ocean Lady migrant ship last October were
members of the Tamil Tigers, a terrorist group outlawed in Canada,
according to an internal government report. The Canada Border
Services Agency report, marked 'secret' raises the possibility that
the ship's entire journey to Canada might have been financed and
organized by the terrorist group to help settle surviving militants
abroad following its crushing military defeat by the Sri Lankan
government last year.
