Sajith unrepentant

It is only those who harbour pro-LTTE sentiments who are agitated
over his attendance together with some party colleagues at the first
anniversary Victory Day celebrations at Galle Face last Friday, UNP MP
Sajith Premadasa said.
“If anyone says we breached party discipline by attending the victory
day celebrations at the Galle Face, they are wrong, he said.
He stressed that though the LTTE terrorists have been wiped out their
ghosts are still hovering about endangering the sovereignty of the
country.” As Sri Lankans, it is our duty to pay our respect to the
fallen war heroes and honour all Security Forces who were behind this
historic victory”, he said.
Unfortunately, politics have raised its head to belittle the victory
whoever achieved it. That should not be the policy of any party. If one
party does a good thing for the sake of the country it is our humble
duty to say so,” he said.
We do not fear to face any consequences from the party if indeed we
had breached party discipline. But we saluted only the war heroes not
anyone else by attending the celebrations, he added.
Disciplinary action should be taken only if we harmed the party or
violated the party constitution. There is no clause in the UNP
constitution to penalize any body when they salute events associated
with patriotic and national feelings.
“We are not enemies of the country though we represent the
Opposition. We do love our country and we do not hesitate to say what is
right or wrong, he said. |
