Bamba marine drive extended

The Bambalapitiya marine drive, will be extended up to Kollupitiya Railway Station from the Glen Arbor area in Bambalapitiya.

The Road Development Authority(RDA)’s workers are currently engaged in the construction work on the extension of the marine drive from Bambalapitiya to Kollupitiya, RDA’s Additional Director General ( Assets, Maintenance and Operation) A.M. Jawzi told the Daily News.

The marine drive that runs extends Rama Krishna road in Wellawatte to Glen Arbor area in Bambalapitiya has vastly contributed in minimizing traffic on the Galle road.

Under the second stage, the marine drive will be extended up to the Kollupitiya Railway Station at a cost of Rs 300 million.

With this extension, traffic congestion is expected to ease between Bambalapitiya and Kollupitiya, he said.

The work on the 1.8 km stretch is expected to be completed before May 19.

He said the RDA has expedited work on the marine drive extension for the benefit of all types of road users.
