More English medium teachers for schools

In a bid to arrest the dearth of A/L teachers in the English medium in Government schools, the Education Ministry will start recruitment of 554 teachers soon.

According to Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena, students who study in the English medium up to O/L examination face difficulty in continuing their A/L in the same medium due to the lack of English medium teachers.

“We will initiate a program to recruit the English medium A/L teachers within this week., he said. The Minister said President Mahinda Rajapaksa has approved the recruitment of these teachers.

The recruitment of English medium A/L teachers would be mainly to teach Science and Commerce subjects in the English medium for A/L classes. English medium classes are being held in more than 83 schools islandwide.
