Commuters complaints to be looked into

Transport Deputy Minister Rohana Kumara Dissanayake who traveled by the Kandy-Colombo train yesterday morning pledged to take measures to resolve shortcomings in the railway service after listening to the complaints of the commuters.

The Minister promised to commence the awareness program to educate people living in the Suduhumpala area between Peradeniya and Kandy where a number of railway accidents were reported in the past few years.

People in shanties bordering the railway track in Suduhumpala area loiter about which result in many accidents. Therefore, it is necessary to make the people aware of the risk,” he said.

The Minister who also visited the Fort Railway station on an inspection tour found out that several trains were late. He also listened to the grievances of commuters at the station.

He later held a discussion with Fort Railway station Master M.L. Chandrasoma and officials to find solutions to the various problems.

The Minister stressed the need for providing a better train service and advised the officials to take speedy action to solve their problems.
