Shares trade on narrow band

Shares at the Colombo Stock Exchange traded within a narrow band throughout the day, but finally the indices ended down by 0.2 percent.

The All Share Price Index lost seven points while the more liquid MPI lost nine points to end at 4,215 and 4,748 respectively.

Turnover remained high as retail investors bought up mid cap and small cap stocks. Leading in terms of turnover was e-channelling with business of Rs 113 million with the share gaining Rs 4.75 to close at Rs 25.00.

Lanka Orix Leasing also saw much volatility with the share finally closing at Rs 276.50 on turnover of Rs 107 million. Hemas Holdings generated a turnover of Rs 74 million with the share gaining Rs 4.50 to end at Rs 140.50.
