Marketing) Chen Hai exchanging the agreements. SLPA Executive
Director Dr. Sanjaya Sedara Senarath looks on. |
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) recently signed an agreement
with ZPMC of China to purchase essential cranes for operations at the
Jaya Container Terminal (JCT). This signed agreement enables the SLPA to
purchase three Gantry Cranes and twenty four mobile cranes at a cost of
Rs 7200 million.
Although it takes around 16 months to obtain the required machinery
following the agreement, according to the usual procedure, ZPMC has
certified that it would take maximum efforts to minimize the period in
favour of the strong position of bilateral and diplomatic ties between
Sri Lanka and China.
The new gantries would be of greater capacity than the ones in
operation at present and are also higher in operational efficiency as
well as technology.
SLPA Chairman Dr. Priyath B.Wickrama said that the arrival of the new
machinery at JCT will boost the efficiency of JCT to a higher standard
while contributing towards the port’s target of emerging as a hub port
in the region. |
