Five top teams record impressive wins

Last weekend saw eight games of the Holcim FA Cup completed with five Premier League teams making their way to the next round. The teams that went through to the next round are Old Bens SC, Don Bosco SC, Renown SC, New Youngs SC and Blue Star SC.

Old Bens SC playing in their home den had the highest aggregate of goals playing against Green Field SC from Kalutara. New Youngs SC from Wennappuwa had the better of the team from Kurunegala. The Pelicans SC when they trounced them three goals to one in Kurunegala, while Renown Sc from Colombo outplayed the High riding Hyline SC, Kandy 1-0 at the Sugathadasa stadium.

The other outstation teams to reach the coming round are Super Sun SC, and the Blue Star SC from Kalutara. Meanwhile in a another game between two leading Clubs from Negombo Don Bosco and Jupiters SC saw the former make their way to the following with a brilliant 4-1 victory over their hometown rivals.

Java Lane SC which confronted Cooray SC recorded a comfortable 2-0 win to go to the next stage.

Weekend results:

Old Bens SC beat Green Field SC 6-1 at St. Benedict's College grounds, Kotahena. Super Sun SC beat Kalutara Park SC 6-5 (on a tie breaker) at Kalutara. Java Lane SC beat Cooray SC 2-0 at City Football Complex. Don Bosco SC beat Jupiters SC 4-1 at Kadolkele ground, Negombo. Renown SC (Colombo) beat Hyline SC (Kandy) 1-0 Sugathadasa Stadium. New Youngs SC beat Pelicans SC 3-1 Maligapitiya grounds, Kurunegala. Blue Star SC beat Renown SC (Hatton) 4-1 at Kalutara.
