Building trust among communities:
Government to establish Reconciliation Commission
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne yesterday stated in
Parliament that the Government will establish a Reconciliation
Commission to build mutual trust among communities. The Premier
moving the motion to extend the Emergency Regulations by another one
month said the objective of the Commission was to build the trust if
there were any breach of trust among the communities due to the
conflict that prevailed in the country. Proposals can be made to
this Commission.

Dissanayake rejected the nomination by UNP Leader Ranil
Wickremesinghe and party General Secretary Tissa Attanayake to
appoint UNP Provincial Councillor K.K. Piyadasa as Leader of the
Opposition of the Central Provincial Council when the Council met at
the Pallekelle Provincial Council Complex yesterday.
