Victory over terrorism

First anniversary on grand scale:

The first anniversary of the victory over the terrorists by Armed Forces will be commemorated on a grand scale on May 18, the Ranaviru Seva Authority stated in a press release yesterday.

Ending the anguish, suffering, bereavement and separation from family members people heaved a sigh of relief when the Armed Forces made immense sacrifices to liberate the motherland with undaunted patriotic feelings on this day last year. The authority said a flag day has been organized for May 11 and the first flag will be sold to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The official ceremony commemorating the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police heroes who had sacrificed their lives and limbs to liberate the country will be held at the Parliament grounds opposite the War Heroes Memorial presided over by President Rajapaksa in the presence of the tri-service commanders and the IGP.

The Ranaviru Seva Authority requested all Sri Lankans to observe two minutes silence at 6.00 p.m. on May 18 and light an oil lamp in memory of the war heroes who had made the supreme sacrifice, the release stated.
