Special unit to fight crime in North
Police have set up a Special Criminal
Intelligence Unit in the Northern province to curb crime and vice
with the Jaffna Peninsula becoming a hub of business and social
activity after the ending of the 30-year war.

LTTE suspect arrested
Vavuniya Police arrested a LTTE suspect,
Selvanayagam Vernon alias Arvinda, who is alleged to have been
involved in the bomb attack on the Nippon Hotel, Slave Island on
January 2, 2008. He was later produced before Colombo Fort
Magistrate and Additional District Judge Lanka Jayaratne.
