Sri Lanka keep hopes alive

Sri Lanka managed to keep their tournament hopes alive after beating Zimbabwe by 14 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method in their rain-affected World Twenty20 group match yesterday. Chasing a target of 174, Zimbabwe lost their first wicket when H. Masakadza was run out for four.

Mahela fourth T20 centurion

Mahela Jayawardene became only the fourth batsman in Twenty20 Internationals to score a century after his brilliant knock of 100 against Zimbabwe yesterday. His century which came in 63 balls came just a day after India's Suresh Raina scored 101 in another World Twenty20 group match against South Africa in Saint Lucia.

Injuries ravage New Zealand

A raft of injuries have paved the way for three newcomers to be added to the New Zealand squad for Friday’s one-off rugby league Test against Australia in Melbourne. Coach Stephen Kearney, with seven experienced internationals sidelined by injury, has called up Brisbane Broncos utility Alex Glenn, New Zealand Warriors hooker Aaron Heremaia and Newcastle back rower Zeb Taia to the 18-man squad.
