Socialist International Summit in Venezuela
Venezuela: Venezuela will host the fifth Socialist International, an
initiative aimed at grouping left-wing forces against Capitalism next
week in Caracas, Cultural affairs Deputy Minister Pedro Calzadilla
confirmed.
According to Calzadilla, the meeting will be held on Monday and
Tuesday in a place yet to be decided in Caracas, with progressive
organizations of the five continents expected to attend.
The constitution of the 5th Socialist International will be a bright
opportunity to re-launch Socialism worldwide, Calzadilla told Venezolana
de Television.
He highlighted the significance of previous movements aimed at
joining forces against big challenges for mankind and interference of
Western powers , and said that similar processes emerged in the past out
of the need to regroup international left.
In late 2009, President Hugo Chavez launched the initiative to
establish the 5th Socialist International.
"I think time has come for us to call the 5th International, and I
dare to call it because I think it is a necessity," said Chavez during
the closing ceremony of the World Meeting of Left Parties and Movements.
In his opinion, this is a key mechanism to face current world
capitalist crisis and the threat posed by US aggressiveness.
