UNP members not sworn in

Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara yesterday rejected a request made by UNP to allow three of its members to take oaths as new MPs. He further said that Parliament had been summoned only to extend the Emergency Regulations and no other business could be permitted.

All set for General Election

Tomorrow’s General Election is being held to elect the 196 members for the 14th Parliament. With the national list members the House would have 225 members under the Proportional Representation system. All election campaign meetings and propaganda came to stop from midnight Monday.
