Four Lankan spikers for Asian Beach Volleyball tourney

Four Beach Volleyballers and two officials will leave the island today to participate at the Asian Beach Volleyball Tourney to be held in Thailand. Almost all the Beach Volleyball playing countries are participating in this tournament which will be held in three different parts of Thailand from April 09 to 17.

The players are Pubudu Ekanayake and Sampath Peiris from Sri Lanka Air Force and Wasantha Ratnapala and Mahesh Perera from Sri Lanka Navy. They are accompanied by Prasanna Udaya Kumara (Coach) from Air Force and Sqd Ldr. P.N. de Costa.

Last year’s captain Dhammika Silva who led the side reach the fourth position in this tournament had to skip the tour due to an injury sustained during the National tournament which concluded recently. He is replaced by newcomer to the side Sampath Peiris also from the Air Force. Dhammika’s absence will be felt badly as he has been a tower of strength for the team last year.

Last year the women’s team too competed but as they failed badly were not allowed to participate this year.
