General Election:

Special security plan in Puttalam

A special security program will be implemented in the Puttalam district tomorrow, to ensure a peaceful general election, said DIG (Wayamba West) Daya Samaraweera.

He said a countingent of 3,592 Police, Army and Navy personnel will be deployed in the district under this special security arrangement.

An ASP or a Chief Inspector will also be placed in charge of each Police Station in the district to ensure the smooth functioning of this security plan. While two anti-riot squads will be stationed at the Chilaw and Puttalam Police divisions, there will be 387 polling centres in the district in addition to 49 special polling booths for displaced persons. There will also be 24 police checkpoints along roads in addition to 13 check points near specially identified polling centres, he said.
