Galle Fort renovation : 85 percent complete

Eighty five percent of the renovation work on the ancient Galle Fort
has already been completed, Galle Fort Works Manager Chinthana Tilak
said.
Work commenced in 2007 with Dutch assistance, Tilak told the Daily
News.
Netherlands provided Rs. 133 million for the renovation.

Two persons found guilty of transporting sand without permit were
fined Rs. 50,000 each by Matara Additional Magistrate Udesha Ranatunga.
The Magistrate also confiscated the sand transported by K.K. Saman
and U.G. Sandun Kumara. Kananke police prosecuted.
Liquor shops closed

All liquor shops in the island will be closed on April 8 and 9 due to
the General Election. They will also be closed on April 13 and 14 for
the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Excise Commissioner (Revenue), L. K. G.
Gunawardena said.

A public seminar on My Vision for Economic Development will be held
at the YMCA Forum Colombo today at 5.30 p.m. Invitees will be Science

Clinical meeting on leprosy
The monthly clinical meeting of April on leprosy in clinical practice
will be held on April 20 from 12.15 p.m. to 1.15 p.m. at the Lionel
Memorial Auditorium, Colombo.

Felicia Saravanapavanathan, Consultant Dermatologist, NHSL Dr. Ganga
Sirimanne and Consultant Dermatologist NHSL Dr. K. Satgurunathan will be

Buddhist talk
Prof Oliver Abeynayake will deliver a public Buddhist talk in English
on The middle path in Buddhism at a meeting of the Servants of Buddha
Society on Saturday at 4.30 p.m. at Maithree Hall, Lauries Road,
Bambalapitiya. All are welcome.
Free health camps islandwide

Specialist doctors at the Colombo National Hospital took part in a
special health camp at Debarawewa Maha Vidyalaya, Tissamaharama last
Friday. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa opened the camp attended by over
5,000 people.
All types of medical tests, drugs and consultation were available for
the patients and pregnant women free at this camp held from morning to
evening. The people who attended this camp were given free spectacles
under the Vision 20/20 Program. Nutrition food provided to all pregnant
women who attended the health camp. Free drugs were also distributed.
