Motor Traffic Dept bags honours

The Department of Motor Traffic has won the prestigious Taiki Akimoto prize for standardisation and productivity awarded by the Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA) at its 14th annual awards ceremony this year.

The Department of Motor Traffic has won this award beating many State and private sector institutions in this country, said the Transport Ministry in a press release issued yesterday. This department which was a symbol of inefficiency and waste a few years ago has made a major turnaround within a short time to be an institution of high standard and productivity. Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said the achievement made by the Motor Traffic Department symbolised the Mahinda Chinthana objective of going a new orientation and a human face to the public sector.

It was also a great honour to the public service which should try to emulate this in all other sectors.
