Shihan Kamileen match winner
Skipper Shihan Kamileen produced a fine all round performance as
Thurstan College routed Karandeniya Central by a massive 216 runs in
their inter school under 19 limited overs cricket tournament first round
match played at Thurstan ground yesterday.
Thurstan: 278 for 8 in 50 overs (S. Kamileen 76, J. Siyabalapitiya
47, U. Munasinghe 34, S. Navaratne 26, T. Madurapperuma 23, P.
Arthavindu 21, S. Wijesinghe 3 for 54, S. Seneviratne 2 for 22).
Karandeniya Central: 62 in 21 overs (S. Kamileen 5 for 29, S. Dias 4
for 32).
Tour finalised
Sri Lanka's tour to the United States and Zimbabwe has been
finalized. The National team will proceed to Lauderhill in the U.S after
the conclusion of the WC T/20 in the West Indies for the American Cup
T/20 against New Zealand and thereafter to Zimbabwe for a triangular
series against India and hosts Zimbabwe.
The detailed itineraries of the above tournament will be announced
shortly.
Sports meet
Kelaniya group corr.
The annual sports meet of Victoria International school, Kiribathgoda,
Kelaniya, organised by its Directress Mrs. Sumana Premadasa, Principal
and the staff will be held today commencing at 8.30 a.m.
The Chief Guest will be Mrs. Priyanthi Samaraweera, Assistant
Commissioner, Government Publications.
Kulathunga included
The national selectors have included Jeevantha Kulathunga in the 30
man squad for the forthcoming ICC WC T20 tournament scheduled to be held
in the West Indies from April 30 to May 16.
Jeevantha was included into the squad considering his outstanding
performance in the recently concluded Bank of Ceylon inter provincial
T20 tournament.
Jeevantha who represented Hirdramani Ruhuna aggregated 277 runs in
six innings which included his highest score of an unbeaten 104, the
fastest T20 century recorded in Sri Lanka.
Jeevantha recorded the best batting average of 69.25 and a strike
rate of 152.19.
Gopalan Trophy on again
Sri Lanka Cricket has initiated talks with Tamil Nadu Cricket
Association to revive the popular Gopalan Trophy.
The Gopalan Trophy was played annually before the pre test era with
Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka hosting the game on a reciprocal basis.
The bi-annual trophy was initiated in 1952 with the starting of a
silver jubilee fund to celebrate M.J. Gopalan's 25 years as a cricket
player.
Piliyandala Govt services cricket
Kasturiarachchci WARNAKULASURIYA
Piliyandala Govt services six-a-side cricket tournament (islandwide)
starts at the Somaweera Chandrasiri grounds, tomorrow.
It is being organized by the Piliyandala Govt Services Sports body.
The champions will receive Rs. 25,000 and a Cup.
The runners-up will get a Cup together with a cash award of Rs.
15,000.
The Man of the Match, Best Batsman, Best Bowler will be awarded a Cup
each along with a mobile phone.
