DSS confront Mahanama in Battle of the Golds

The 'Battle of the Golds' D.S. Senanayake College Vs Mahanama College fourth annual cricket encounter will be held on March 26 and 27 at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground.

The fourth annual one day cricket encounter will be played on April 3 at the same venue for the Aravinda de Silva Challenge Trophy.

Apart from this year's theme of having a big match free from alcoholic drinks and drugs, the event will be sponsored by Dialog Telekom.

D.S. Senanayake College will be captained by left-arm fast bowler, fourth year coloursman and Sri Lanka under 19 player Charith Jayampathi.

Charith Jayampathi was selected for the 2010 Under-19 world cup in New Zealand. He got nine wickets during the Under 19 tour of Australia in 2009. He was selected for the national squad in 2007 and took part in he triangular series Vs Pakistan and Bangladesh, on the South Africa tour he bagged 13 wickets in six matches. He was also adjudged the best bowler and the best all round cricketer at the Coca-Cola Award Ceremony in 2009.

Brilliant all-rounder Dhanushka Gunathilaka is the captain of Mahanama College team. He represented Sri Lanka team at the Under 19 Youth World Cup in New Zealand. A fine left handed batsman who bowls right arm medium fast toured South Africa, Australia and New Zealand with Sri Lanka Under 19 team.

D.S. Senanayake College has lost only two matches this season. D.S has two other good batsmen right hand top order batsman and wicket keeper Charith Satharasinghe has scored 702 runs in 14 matches (Ave 43.88), Left-hand top order batsman Chamod Wickramasinghe has scored 796 runs in 16 matches. Right-arm off spinner Malshan Gunasinghe bagged 72 wickets in 16 matches. Duleeka Tissakuttige is the most successful batsman of Mahanama team. He has scored 819 runs in 15 matches with two brilliant centuries and three half centuries. He is a stylish left-handed batsman. Indunil Sandalanka is a successful bowler. He has scored 460 runs and bagged 57 wickets.

Asoka Senani Hewage Principal of D.S Senanayake College noted that this year's match is being played according to Presidential Secretariat's directive of having big matches without encouraging the consumption of liquor. Accordingly all steps are being taken to make sure this will be a liquor free event.
