Jaleel 7 for 13 helps Trinity
S. M. Jiffrey ABDEEN Kandy sports corr.
A deadly spell of off spin bowling by Rushan Jaleel who took 7 for 13
helped Trinity College to score an easy seven wicket win over P. de S.
Kularatne Vidyalaya Ambalangoda in their schools Munchee Trophy under-19
limited over cricket tournament match played at the Asgiriya stadium in
Kandy yesterday.
Off spinner Rushan Jaleel who was the stand in skipper as both the
regular skipper and his deputy could not command a place in the side due
to poor form was in deadly form with the ball and his final figures read
8.3-5-13-7.
It was only Sahan Sankalpa who was comfortable against the all spin
attack of Trinity scoring 50 not out (with 1 six and 5 fours) off 51
balls.
If not for this fine knock by Sahan Sankalpa, the visitors would have
been dismissed for a smaller total.
When Trinity College batted there was little rain and bad light.
They were set a revised target of 136 runs in 40 overs under the
parabola system.
Big hitting by Sameera Wijesuriya 44 not out (with 6 fours) and Akila
Jayasundera 39 (2 sixers and 4 fours) ensured victory in just 17.5 overs.
P. de S. Kularatne Vidyalaya 150 all out in 47.5 overs (Sahan
Sankalpa 50 n.o., Saliya Saranga 18, Sameera Nadeesha 18, Rushan Jaleel
7 for 13).
Trinity College 138 for 3 in 17.5 overs (Sameera Wijesuriya 44 n.o.,
Akila Jayasundera 39, Kavinda Jayasuriya 13, Niroshan Dickwella 12). |
