Intra - Party clashes soar - Polls Observation Center

The National Polls Observation Center in a press release said 72 cases of election law violations have been reported. Seventy percent among them were due to clashes among candidates of the same political party.

A great responsibility lies with the general secretaries of political parties to maintain internal discipline among their candidates.

It has also been reported that the list of candidates of the UNP for Moneragala District had been tampered with, without the approval of the Party General Secretary.

Therefore the National Polls Observation Center requested all political parties to inform candidates to work towards a peaceful poll, the release stated.
