Community Trust Fund Managing Trustee Jenzila Majeed who was awarded
the prestigious international award for The Courageous Women for 2010 in
an interview with the Daily News on her arrival in the island, said she
was the co-ordinator of women's activities during the period where no
other women entered this profession.
"This was the darkest era where a large number of IDPs and their
issues erupted. I had to handle IDPs issues in Puttalam voluntarily,
discussing with the affected women and inducing women to join social
work," Majeed said.
"Being a woman, I understood all domestic problems faced by women. I
have organized a number of grassroots programs in villages. The
awareness programs which I organized in the village paved the way in
forming a number of women organizations," she said.
Majeed said her main concern was the resettlement of the IDPs
regardless of race, religion and attending to humanitarian issues which
was focused through the Community Trust Fund. |
