Wasp threat closes school

Sirimavo Bandaranaike Primary School, Galgamuwa was closed temporarily fearing a potential wasp attack when it was found that a wasp nest has been built on the roof of a section of the school building, a spokesman for the school said.

He said after seeing the wasp nest, the Principal took measures to evacuate over 400 schoolchildren and staff members who were at the premises.

After consultations with the Zonal Director of Education the school was temporarily shut as a security measure, he said. According to him the wasp nest could have been built on Wednesday afternoon when no one was at the premises. They noticed in the morning when they were cleaning the classrooms and a disaster was prevented, he said.
