Prime Minister marks 50 years in politics
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka completes 50 years in
politics today (March 19).
To mark the occasion a series of ceremonies to pay tribute to the
people of Horana and Kalutara will be held from today till March 21
organized by the 'Kalutara District Janatha Upahara Committee.'
Committee Chairman Arisen Ahubudu said they have organized ceremonies
to pay tribute to the people because the Prime Minister had turned down
offers by several institutions and persons to hold political tamashas in
his honour to mark the occasion. The program will be as follows.
March 19 - A sanghika dana to 550 Bhikkhus at Horana followed by a
Kavi Maduwa at the Horana UC grounds at 3 p.m. and a Devol Maduwa the
same night. March 30 - distribution of 'Senara' medical insurance deeds
among a selected group of elderly people from Kalutara district followed
by a musical show and a 'Daha Ata Sanniya' ritual to invoke blessings on
the people of Kalutara district. The ceremonies will conclude with a
musical show featuring popular vocalists on March 21 said Committee
Secretary Leel Gunasekera.
