Regional Conference on Derivatives in Colombo
A Regional Conference on Derivatives organized by the Financial
Services Academy (FSA), the education and training arm of the Securities
and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) will be held from March 24-26
from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm at the Galadari Hotel.
Derivatives, due to its successful implementation and trading are
gaining much popularity in the emerging markets. Thus, there is a demand
for more knowledge, information and familiarity with the topic as it is
still an area which is new and basic for most of the developing
economies.
Sri Lanka is one market that seeks to introduce derivatives along
with other markets in the Asia Pacific region that are interested or in
the process of introducing derivatives. Thus, laying the foundation for
this initiative the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka made
a landmark amendment to its Act to recognize Derivatives as a Security
that can be traded in an Exchange in Sri Lanka. Taking these new
developments in to consideration the SEC deemed it a timely requirement
to educate market participants on all aspects of Derivatives trading to
share views, expertise and challenges on the subject.
Securities regulators, exchange staff, bank supervisors and other
associated regulatory agencies from around the Asia Pacific region have
been invited to participate at this conference and simultaneously the
Conference is open to local regulators, stock brokers, market
intermediaries, unit trusts, academics, banking and finance
professionals and lawyers providing them a platform to exchange ideas,
experiences and generate networking possibilities. Participants are
expected to attend the full three day program in order to receive their
Certificate of Attendance.
Recognized international and local experts in the subject will
facilitate the conference and its scope is extended to capture the areas
of the Market Process and Mechanism for Derivatives, Pricing and Hedging
Strategies, Clearing Corporation, Surveillance, Exchange Traded Funds
and Securitization other than the drivers of Derivatives.
This conference will also be a Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
approved program for the stock broking community, CCM and RIA holders. |
