Manju - step closer to winning Gold Medal

Sri Lanka's Manju Wanniarachchi moved closer towards winning a rare gold medal with another magnificent performance in the Commonwealth Games boxing championships which is now in progress in New Delhi, India.

Wanniarachchi cleared his semifinal hurdle with a good win on points against his opponent from Botswana and is already assured of winning a silver medal for his country. The final of the bantam weight 56 kg weight class event will be worked off today.

Earlier B. D. Suresh had to be satisfied with a bronze medal when he was knocked out from the semifinals of the 52 kg weight class event. He went down to Oliver Lavigi of Mauritius on points 1-3.

Altogether five Sri Lankan boxers are currently competing in the Commonwealth Games championships.
