The Colombo Inter-Schools Arts and Sculptures and Graphic Designs
exhibition organised by Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya will be held
on March 17 and 18 at the National Art Gallery, Colombo 7.

Two categories of competitions were held Inter-Schools and Dharmapala
Vidyalaya itself.
Twenty seven schools district wide forwarded 150 arts creations for
the competition and the Lellama piece of arts forwarded by Madusha
Ruwani Perera for the competition from Gurukula Vidyalaya was selected
as the best piece of art from invited schools.
The competition of Dharmapala Vidyalaya consisted of ten competitions
from Grade 3 to 13, and more than 800 arts were forwarded for the
overall competition.
There were five divisions of the competition, oil paintings, water
colour paintings, sculptures, and graphic arts.
This is the second inter-schools arts competition and the arts
exhibition organized by Dharmapala Vidyalaya to develop the
co-operation, co-existence, unity, brotherhood, peace and harmony among
schools and students.
“Aesthetic art and craft is the best media that can convey the
message of peace and harmony among the people. Therefore every child
should be given some education on aesthetic arts.”
The principal of Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya K. G. Wimalasena
told the Daily News.
Under the leadership of art instructor Dhammika Gunawardane, other
art instructors of Dharmapala Vidyalaya Brenda Liyanarachchi Renuka
Damayanthi and Sujith Ratnayake co-ordinate the program.
‘My Second Mother - My School’ the oil painting of Sandaroo Venojith
Panawala was selected as the most outstanding creation in the
competition.
The inaugural ceremony will be held on March 17 at 9 a.m. at the
National Art Gallery, Colombo 7 under the gracious patronage of Culture
and National Heritage Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane and in
association with Thusara Gunathilake (Director of Aesthetic Division of
the Education Department). The exhibition will continue till March 18
Thirty one oil paintings, 22 graphic arts, 15 sculptures, 299
paintings of Dharmapalians and 51 paintings from invited schools will be
displayed at the exhibition. |
