Somali clans clash over water

SOMALIA: Fighting between two clans in central Somalia over land and water killed at least 11 people and wounded several others on Saturday, a rights group said.

The two clans have been fighting over land and water in recent weeks in Mudug and the latest clash was about 110 km northeast of Dhusamareb, provincial capital of Galgadud. "At least 11 people died in clan clashes today. The two clans fought inhumanely using knives and guns," Ali Yasin Gedi, the vice chairman of Elman peace and human rights group told Reuters.

Fighting this week in the capital between government troops and al Shabaab rebels killed at least 64 people and wounded 189 others, Elman said.
