Globalization makes us consumers - Correa
ECUADOR: We have overcome the crisis of thoughts in Latin America,
and we have dared to answer to a global association that has tried to
turn us into consumers of the planet, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa
asserted.
Globalization has turned us into a world association, but without
institutions to defend us ourselves, the Ecuadorian president said this
weekend in a public speech, in which he referred to a recent proposal to
stop the crisis' negative effects on labor force migration.
We have proposed to the rest of the States an agreement to establish
a regional minimum wage, aimed at not promoting migration of workers,
because they would have a better salary in another country, he
explained.
As president pro tempore of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR),
Correa said he was studying the agenda he would present to the regional
organization's member countries, before his mandate concludes in August.
Creation of an agency for accrediting universities, with the
objective that the degrees obtained in Ecuador, for example, are equally
valued in other regional countries, avoiding the process of recognizing
degrees as equivalent to those of other countries. Quito, Wednesday,
