Mammoth defeat awaits UNP

Over 150 seats will be won by the UPFA recording a two-thirds
majority at the upcoming General Election, whereas it is abundantly
clear that the UNP will be unable to secure even 50 seats, Central
Provincial Council Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said after
commissioning an irrigation project at Hasalaka.
The Chief Minister said the common Opposition alliance has fragmented
within a period of one and half months paving way for a UPFA’s landslide
victory. “No force could prevent the mammoth defeat that awaits the UNP
at this election,” he said.
With thousands of crossovers daily to the UPFA from the UNP, it has
further compounded the problem for the UNP. Only Opposition Leader Ranil
Wickremesinghe will remain with his henchmen in the party.
“The UNP led by Ranil Wickremesinghe has dug its own grave now. Ranil
cannot take the leadership of any party. He is only prone to work to the
agendas of outside forces. All those who were close to him have become
destitute. General Fonseka was caught up in the Ranil’s trap. Mangala
Samaraweera and Rauff Hakeem have also become political orphans, he
said.
Around nine seats out of 13 will be won by the UPFA in the Kandy
district. We as Kandyans are ready to back the President to steer this
country to the summit of development. I am glad to say no one will have
to say again that Sri Lanka would be another Singapore, we will even
surpass Singapore, the Minister said.
The President needs a strong Government to push the country to the
top of the development sphere. “ We will give him a Parliament with a
two-thirds majority,” the Chief Minister said.
