Transmission tower coming up at Kokavil

A new transmission tower to provide telecommunication, broadcasting and internet facilities to the people in the North is being constructed at Kokavil.

The Mass Media Ministry and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) have undertaken this project at a cost of Rs. 220 million on President Mahinda Rajapaksa's direction. The Army will play a major contribution in the construction work which consists of three main stages.

TRC Director General and Government Information Department Director General Anusha Palpita and several officials inspected the construction site and instructed to expedite the work. Once construction activities are completed the Northern people will get a clear television and radio reception, sources said.

Mass Media and Information Ministry Advisor Saman Ediriweera, Army spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, TRCSL Head of special projects Dharmasiri de Alwis and several Army officials also joined in the tour.
