Lyceum, Wattala clinch title

The last and final day of the International Schools Athletics Meet at the Sugathadasa Stadium organized by the Lyceum International School, Nugegoda for 22 International Schools dawned with Lyceum Wattala in the lead and Gateway College just 15 points behind.

As the athletes pushed beyond the limits of sinew and bone in both the track and field events, the lead changed hands at the lunch break with Gateway on top with Lyceum Wattala a close second and Lyceum Nugegoda in third place.

But as the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400m relays progressed it was but obvious that Lyceum, Wattala would win as they won almost all the relays and even received the Cambridge Challenge Trophy for Relay Champions.

The overall points at the end of the championships were as follows Lyceum, Wattala – 955, Gateway College – 936, Lyceum, Nugegoda – 461, Royal Institute – 328, CIS – 303, OKI – 252, AIS – 214, Leeds – 104, Alethea – 104, Gateway, Kandy – 99, CIS, Kandy – 74, Leighton Park – 59, Stafford – 55, British School – 36, Ikra – 31, Wycherely – 20, Belvoir – 20, Burhani – 5, Elizabeth Moir – 4, St Nicholas – 3 and College of World Education did not score.

Under 9 girls champion - Abinaya Rajasekaran of Asian International School. Under 9 boys champion -Thuthimal Madugalle of CIS Kandy. Under 11 girls champion - Rebecca Silva of Lyceum Wattala. Under 11 boys champion - Rahel Kumaratunga of CIS. Under 13 girls champion - Tharushi Sooriyarachchi of Lyceum Nugegoda.

Under 13 boys champion - Thaher Akbarally of Asian International School. Under 15 girls champion - Trazy Ranasinghe of OKI International.

Under 15 boys champion - Tharaka Dananjay Perera of Lyceum Wattala. Under 17 girls champion - Hansi Ekanayake of Lyceum Wattala and Nirma Sandaratne of Lyceum, Wattala. Under 17 boys champion - Sanjuna Sumanaweera of Royal Institute. Under 19 Girls champion - K Chamatka Kavindra and Nadeeshani H. Henderson of Gateway College.

Under 19 boys champion - Lakshan Polkotuwa of Lyceum, Wattala. Under 20 girls champion - Udara Ratnayake of Gateway College and Under 20 boys champion - Raminda Silva and Dihan Rajinda of Lyceum, Wattala and Ashan Fernando of Gateway College.
