LTTE weapons haul recovered in North and East

The Army and Police Special Task Force (STF) seized a haul of weapons
in the North and East during search and clear operations Saturday. The
troops continuing the search and clear operations in Mullaitivu,
Kumulamunai, Iranamadu, Kanchilamadu, Killinochchi, Paranthan, Palai,
and Adampan recovered four anti personnel mines, 17, 60mm mortar bombs,
five 81 mm mortar bombs, seven unidentified bombs, eight hand grenades,
11 claymore mines, one booby trap and 11, 120 mm mortar bombs, an Army
official said.
Troops seized one 60 mm mortar bomb, two 60 mm mortar fuses, 48
explosive devices and four hand grenades in Puthukuduiruppu and one anti
personnel mine in Kallar, Batticaloa on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Army Intelligence troops engaged in a combined search
operation with special operation unit troops of Sri Lanka Air Force in
Kadawana area, Trincomalee found one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG),
600 rounds of MPMG ammunition, two T-81 weapons, two T-81 magazines,
seven T-56 weapons, 23 T-56 magazines, 750 rounds of Light Machine Gun (LMG)
ammunition, one 40 mm grenade launcher, nine 40 mm bombs and 44 hand
grenades on the same day.
Police Spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said the STF seized a 4.5 kg
claymore, two suicide kits, four hand grenades, 102 ammunition of
7.62x39 type, a hand grenade holder, four electric detonators and LTTE
uniforms at Kandasamynagar during a search operation during Thursday to
Saturday.
The operation was conducted by a group of STF personnel led by IP
Jagodage of the Puwarsakulam STF camp.
Meanwhile, the the officials of Batticaloa Division Intelligence Unit
found four live hand grenades and a compass hidden in the Ramanan Base
Camp at Kokkadicholai maintained by the LTTE earlier. |
