No water cuts despite drought

Water supply will not be affected in the country despite the prevailing drought, a Water Supply Ministry official said.

Due to the drought water levels in many reservoirs and rivers have dropped drastically. This condition will continue for a few more weeks. Water scarcity would arise if the rains delay, the official said.

He said the Water Supply and Irrigation Board is ready to meet any contingency.

“Water Supply Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the Water Board to supply enough water without imposing any water cuts,” he added. As a result of the prevailing drought, there has been huge increase in water consumption. Water pressure is low in many places in the hilly areas. However, water supply will not be reduced.
