Growth in footwear, leather industry
Sri Lanka's footwear industry could be developed further with the
support of Indian industrialists.
The footwear and leather goods sector of Sri Lanka has shown
remarkable growth in the last few years.
Good quality products are produced in Sri Lanka but it needs the
input of quality components, materials, Leather Footwear Advisory
Council Chairman Ranjith Hettiarachchi told Daily News Business.
The Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers' Association (IFCOMA)
could be a catalyst in bridging this gap and to facilitate availability
of quality components for the footwear and leather goods industry, he
said.
The Council for Leather Exports, India (CLE) and FCOMA with the
support of Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka organized an exhibition
of Indian components, materials and leather for footwear, leather goods
and upholstery (furniture/automobile) industry.
A two-day exhibition of components, materials and leather for
footwear, leather goods and upholstery will be held at Galle Face Hotel,
Colombo tomorrow.
The exhibition is an ideal opportunity to share experience and
knowledge and to work in partnership for the betterment of the industry.
This event will also help in forming joint ventures between Indian
and Sri Lankan companies to start new ventures in the field of footwear
components in the country.
