Royal take major honours

Royal College, Colombo gained a first innings win over St. Sebastian’s College in their inter-school Under 19 cricket match played at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday. Batting first visitors piled up 294 runs for 8 declared with Sri Lanka Schools cricketer Banuka Rajapakse hitting a scincilating 132 runs including fourteen hits to the ropes and five over in 139 balls. He was associated in a 154 run partnership for the third wicket with Chanaka Bogoda who made 84 runs.

Sebs in reply made 210 runs with Kasun Fernando top scoring with 78 runs. Ramith Rambukwella was the most successful bowler for the visitors with 4 for 43. In their second essay Royal batted until the close and they were 201 for 9. Imal Liyanage batted well for 81 runs. Amila Aponso was among the wickets again for Sebs with five figures of 5 for 65.

First innings win for DSS

D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya has to be satisfied with a 136 run first innings win over Moratu Vidyalaya in their Inter-school Under-19 Cricket Tournament match played at Moratuwa.

In reply to DS Senanayake score of 335 for 8 declared Vidyalians were all out for 189 runs with Sudeepa Kelum scoring 53 runs. Malshan Gunasinghe and Savin Cyril bagged 4 for 85 and 4 for 37 respectively.

Following on homesters batted continuously and when stumps were drawn they were 249 for 9 with a captain’s knock of 60 runs by Kalhara Peiris.

Sri Rahula in first innings win over Carey

Sri Rahula College, Katugastota scored a first innings win over Carey College in their inter-school cricket match concluded at Mount Mary grounds yesterday.

Highlights of the match were two half centuries by I. Amila who scored 56 and 63 in the match. Sanka Perera also batted well to score 71 with 10 fours for Carey.

For Sri Rahula College, spinner Amith Tillekeratne captured his seventh five wicket or more haul when he took 5 for 50. Sunimal Dissanayake (52) and Roshan Subhasinghe (50 not out) batted well for Sri Rahula.

Sri Rahula College were set an impossible target of scoring 221 to win in 18 overs and surprisingly they accepted this challenge and went for runs and put themselves in a precarious position before putting up the shutters. At close they were 64 6 - very far away from victory and close to defeat.

Carey College: 179 all out in 54 overs (Shafra Yuthufi 35, I. Amila 56, M. Irfan 15, A. Ratnasuriya 12, Srimal Madusanka 3 for 22, Amith Tillekeratne 5 for 50) and 238 for 7 decl in 47.4 overs (I. Amila 63, Sanka Perera 71, C. Caldera 33, Shafra Yuthufi 22, Rajitha Ranatunga 2 for 27).

Sri Rahula College: 196 all out in 62.4 overs (Pradeep Priyadarshana 38, Sunimal Dissanayke 52, Roshan Subhasinghe 50 n.o, I. Amila 2 for 35, M. Irfan 2 for 10, C. Mapatuna 2 for 68, R. Rizvi 2 for 61, S. Bandara 2 for 15) and 64 for 6 in 18 overs (Pradeep Priyadarshana 15, Ruwan Ratnayake 22, R. Rizvi 3 for 15, C. Maputuna 3 for 19).
