Tractor trailer turns turtle killing soldier

A soldier died yesterday at Mankulam junction yesterday when the tractor trailer he was travelling in toppled.

Police Spokesman Prishantha Jayakody stated that the tractor trailer turned turtle causing injuries to two other soldiers.

The deceased was identified as Jayasinghe Chamara Sampath (20) of Pitigala. He died on admission to the Mankulam Hospital.

Meanwhile the Special Task Force (STF) seized one SFG 87 hand grenade, 110 T-56 ammunition and a mobile phone without the battery hidden by the LTTE at Akkaramkulam on Monday.

The weapons were found by a group led by SI Sanjeewa Adikarari of the Kalvanchikudi STF camp and were handed over to Valachchena Police by the STF.

A Chinese National who was working on electricity lines at Dunkannawa, Thuthiripitiya died on admission to the Chilaw Hospital after he was electrocuted.
