Regional Workshop on Social Responsibility today

The Regional Workshop ISO 26000 on Social Responsibility organized by
the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI) in association with the
International Organization for Standardization ISO and Swedish
International Development Agency (SIDA) will commence today with Science
and Technology Minister Professor Tissa Vitarana as the Chief Guest.
The Open Forum of the Regional Workshop will be held from March 3 to
March 5 at the Taj Samudra.
The regional workshop will be held on March 4 and 5.
The workshop will be held with the participation of 30 foreign
participants from 20 countries from the South East Asia region and 40
local participants interested in the uptake and application of the
future ISO 26000 standard.
Out of 40 local participants 25 are members of the National Mirror
Committee.
ISO instructors Martin Neureiter and Pierre Mazeau from Australia
will conduct lectures at the workshop.
A lecture on Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility and
another giving an overview of standards will be delivered by the ISO
instructors at the he Open Forum of the Regional Workshop while a
lecture on Implementing Social Responsibility in Sri Lanka will be
delivered by Deputy Director General of SLSI Dr Priyadarshani
Talgaswatte.
The representative from Thailand will also speak on Regional
Perspectives in Sri Lanka.
Social Responsibility is based on seven principles such as
accountability, transparency, ethical behavior, respect for Rule of Law,
respect for international norms of behavior, respect for human rights
etc.
