NDF General Secretary files FR application

National Democratic Front (NDF) General Secretary Shyamila Perera filed a Fundamental Rights application in the Supreme Court complaining of the violation of the due the process with regard to the recently concluded Presidential Election.

The petitioner is seeking an Interim Order for a recount of the votes in connection with Ratnapura, Matale, Puttalam and Anuradhapura districts.

She cited Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake and the Attorney General as respondents. The petitioner alleged that there had been facts, incidents and circumstances pointing to "flagrant transgression of the due process of counting of votes and declaring results" at the election, which is violative of the rights of the petitioner and the public.

She is seeking a Court declaration that her rights have been infringed by the first respondent and also sought a declaration to be made after an accurate recount of the vote.

Samararatne Associates filed the petition.
