Basil submits declaration of assets

Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa who is contesting the April 8 General Election from the Gampaha District as the UPFA Group Leader, submitted his declaration of assets to the Gampaha District Secretary at the District Secretariat yesterday.

Basil Rajapaksa's gesture can be considered as a proper answer for Opposition detractors who make unfounded charges against members of the Rajapaksa family alleging that they are amassing wealth at the expense of the public.

By submitting an assets declaration Rajapaksa has proved his word by deed and set a fine example to all other candidates.

Addressing the media after submitting the nomination papers at the Gampaha District Secretariat, he also promised to conduct his campaign in a fair and just manner devoid of violence and thuggery.

He said he would lead his group to a convincing victory without engaging in a fight for preferential votes among them. Rajapaksa said his aim was to enable 14 UPFA members to enter Parliament from Gampaha.
