Lankan shuttlers lose to Thais 4-1

On the 2nd day of the Thomas Cup the Sri Lankan Badminton team faced tough opponents South Asian giants India and Thailand. Sri Lankan doubles champions Hasith Chanaka and R.S. Dahanayake managed to pull off a shock win against over strong Thai doubles pair. This was the only victory scored by the Lankans against the Thai team and they lost the game 4-1.

The Sri Lankan team managed to thrash Cambodia and score a resounding 5-0 victory over them. In the men’s singles event Sri Lanka national champion Niluka Karunarathne finished the game in straight sets by completely outclassing his Cambodian opponent 21/7, 21/1. Dinuka Karunaratne and R.S. Dahanayake also scored easy victories as they dominated over their opponents.

In the Men’s doubles event National Doubles Champions Hasith Chanaka and R.S -Dahanayake won the match 21/14,21/14. In the other doubles match Niluka partnering his brother Dinuka trounced the Cambodian pair 21/14, 21/6.
