Protest over Kandy slots for Mano, Hakeem

Ten candidates in the Kandy District UNP list have lodged their strong protest with the leadership over the decision to field Rauf Hakeem and Mano Ganeshan from Kandy.

This group had even refused to sign the nomination papers forcing UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to say that in such an event he would look for other alternatives.

Veteran UNPer and former MP Abdul Cader had remonstrated with the leader not to belittle those who slaved and dedicated their lives for the party in the presence of individuals like Mangala Samaraweera and Hakeem.

According to reports, the UNP leader had stated that if any candidate is against fielding Hakeem and Ganesan, he or she should make way for others instead.

Accordingly there are three Muslim and three Tamil candidates on the UNP list for the Kandy District at this election.
