Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa Foundation Chairperson Lali
Kobbekaduwa has selected Private K. Thushara (25), as the recipient of
the house donated by philanthropist Dr. C. Palewela. A foster mother
donated the plot of land since he was brought up without parents.
Private Thushara sustained trapping injuries on August 17, 2008 and
became blind while in the battlefield off Kokkuthuduwai, Weli Oya
fighting LTTE terrorists.
Thushara, skilled in IT and English language continues to receive
special education at Ragama Ranaviru Sevana.
His bride, who had shown her magnanimity towards a totally blind war
hero, never expected a newly built house for themselves as a gift on
their wedding day. The new house costing Rs. 500,000 was built on a plot
of land at Dangalla, Kirindiwela, donated by Private Thushara's foster
mother Wijekanthi Mudannayaka.
Kobbekaduwa entrusted the construction supervision to the Ragama
Ranaviru Sevana.
The couple were unaware that they were going to be owners of a new
house, built by the Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa Foundation.
Lali Kobbekaduwa, Dr C. Pallewela, Colonel K.D.C.G.J. Thilakaratne,
Commandant, Ragama Ranaviru Sevana, Colonel J.V. Siriwardena, Lieutenant
Colonel M.P. Chandrasena, Major B.C.S. Kumara and several guests
attended the wedding ceremony.
Guests and the couple lit the oil lamp and inaugurated the new house
after the National Flag was hoisted outside the house by the guests.
