New born in fertilizer bag

A new born baby was found inside a fertilizer bag by the Eppawala police lying abandoned in a hut (vadiya) in a chena in Mawathawewa, Eppawala yesterday.

The police found the infant after questioning a 16 year old girl on suspicion following a tip off by the hospital staff.

The girl who had got admitted to hospital had aroused suspicion among the ward staff as if she had just given birth.

The police who was informed had arrived at the hospital and questioned her at length and she had confessed to having given birth and left the baby in a hut in a chena cultivation.

The baby who was recovered by police and handed over to the Anuradhapura Teaching hospital for care is reported to be doing well.
